Companion Adoption by Region

Percentage of households with active companion systems

Source: National Statistics Bureaus, Initiative Estimates

Tracks companion technology household penetration across three major regional clusters: East Asia (Japan, South Korea, Shanghai), Northern Europe (Stockholm, London, Berlin), and North America (San Francisco, New York, Toronto). East Asian markets continue to lead adoption, consistent with existing demographic conditions including elevated single-person household rates.

Birth Rate Trend Overlay

Fertility rate vs. companion adoption (indexed)

Source: World Bank, Helio Public Data, Initiative Analysis

Indexed comparison of declining fertility rates and rising companion adoption across high-adoption regions. Correlation does not imply causation — fertility decline trends predate companion technology availability. The Initiative continues to monitor for potential acceleration effects.

Usage by Age Group

Active companion users as percentage of age cohort

18-24 25-34 35-44 45-54 55+

Source: Initiative Survey Data, Q3 2025

The 18-24 and 25-34 cohorts account for 62% of active users. However, the 35-54 cohort represents a larger share of early adoption (26%) than comparable consumer technologies at the same stage, suggesting companion technology appeals across a broader age range than typical consumer electronics.

Marriage Rate Trend

Marriages per 1,000 population, high-adoption regions

Source: National Vital Statistics, OECD Data

Marriage rates in high-adoption regions have continued their multi-decade decline. As with fertility data, the downward trend predates companion technology. The Initiative is developing refined analytical tools to isolate any potential acceleration effect from pre-existing structural trends.
